In honor of the Oscars this past weekend, here’s my take on red carpet dressing. The highlight of not yet (emphasis on “yet”) being on that famous red carpet is the freedom to wear whatever I see fit for Hollywood’s biggest night. Another highlight is being able to watch from the comfort of my cozy home… with pizza. And snacks. Downside – commercials. And not being able to casually run into Meryl Streep. One day.
I absolutely fell head over heels for this blazer in all it’s double-breasted, satin-lapel goodness. Bonus points for actually fitting my petite (little-boy-shoulders) frame without drowning me completely. I dressed it down with my trustiest pair of ripped denim and sexed it up with my favorite tuxedo-esque pumps and a peek of lace.
For those of you who tuned in, what were your favorite moments of this year’s Oscars? I’m not gonna lie, the musical theater nerd in me went crazy for that opening number. And can we talk about Lady Gaga for a second??? She absolutely killed her Sound of Music tribute (let’s not even get started with my shameless Sound of Music obsession) and I cannot have been the only person to cry rivers of tears when THE Julie Andrews came out and actually HUGGED her. Ugh. I’m getting emotional just thinking about it. Speaking of emotional, what about John Legend & Common’s (aka John Stevens & Lonnie Lynn’s) incredibly moving performance of “Glory”? And that speech!!! Not a dry eye in the house. Another speech worth mentioning was Patricia Arquette’s call for wage equality for women and – equally worth mentioning – Meryl/JLo’s enthusiastic support of said speech. But for me, Graham Moore’s moving and heartfelt speech was the absolute highlight of the night. I empathized with his pain and cheered at his charge to Stay Weird & Stay Different. Inspiration level 1000. Go watch it if you haven’t yet. It’s worth your time, I promise.
Hope everyone’s having a great week so far! It’s already Tuesday which means it’s almost Wednesday which means we’re basicallysortofkindaalmost halfway done with this week and Friday is right around the corner! Yes? No? It’s all about perspective, guys, let me have this one.
