Something equally as refreshing – though this time for the soul – is catching up with old friends who just get you. I had a quick one-hour-power-catch-up with a friend I’ve known for over a decade (how old do I feel right now…) yesterday, and it was everything I needed to get my week started right. We talked of work and love and God and dreams and future and past while enjoying cups of mediocre coffee as has become our habit over all these years. When I left, my heart was brimming with gratitude – for good friends (and bad coffee). For the beautiful tree-lined street I later found myself on. For the fact that it was early March and I was driving with all my windows rolled down and country music blasting. For those special people who speak into my soul and love me so well. For the kids people we were then and the people we are now. For our dreams of purpose… and for the delightful discovery that we are already exactly where we are supposed to be.
If you are lucky to have friends like these, hold them tight and don’t let go. Tell them you appreciate them and tell them why. Tell them you are proud of who they are. Tell them you love them. Because true friends are precious and lovely and rare. And there’s nothing more refreshing than that.
