Guys!! Tomorrow is 2015, can you believe it?? Seeing as this will be my final post of 2014, I just want to say thank you for coming along and keeping up with my journey this year! And what a year it’s been…
We rang in 2014 on downtown rooftops with good friends and champagne. A few weeks later I was on set, shooting my first national commercial of the year with Tire Rack. It was also my first time on a car rig, which I am told is actually called a process trailer (who knew?)
In February I reconnected with my #WongFuFamily on their hilarious sketch, Creepy or Romantic. Ally and I couldn’t shake our valley girl personas for days… and Wes told his Victoria’s Secret joke… again.
February also saw the LA premiere of Cavemen which marked my first time in a film showing in theaters. Also my first time on a red carpet.. and on Getty images. Lots of firsts. Lots of very good firsts.
In March we released #WGP‘s first parody music video, “No Food” (a TLC parody on juice cleanses). We sang, we danced, we drank a lot of lemon juice/cayenne and tried on some very.. interesting.. looks. If you haven’t watched it yet, I have no idea what you’re waiting for 😉
Not too soon after we wrapped, I teamed up with the Wong Fu fam again for a short film that was meaningful on a very personal level, After Us. At the end of 2013, I had finally gotten through the final stage of healing after a tough breakup so I definitely related to Carly’s journey in the short. It was an honor to help bring Christine and Phil’s story to life, and to be a part of encouraging so many people on their own journeys of healing. I also got to bring on some of my own real life friends, which is always an amazing time 🙂
In late spring / early summer, I worked on another car-related commercial – this time for Toyota – and also got behind the camera, 1st ADing for a short film and a music video. It’s always nice to get back on the other side of the camera from time to time 🙂
After a long, nail-bitingly-anxious audition process, I was blessed to join the AMAZING cast of Wong Fu’s first feature film. I had an incredible summer working with these crazy talented and passionate folk. An experience I am forever grateful for and won’t soon forget. And we were even featured on TIME!
In fall, I got over my fear of talking straight into the camera (so different from acting!) and teamed up with the Fung Brothers for a few of their videos. These guys are the real deal – both hard-working and hilarious.
I also got to work with A REAL LIVE ZEBRA (oh, and Watsky) on Watsky’s music video, Planet Earth. Guys. A real. Live. Zebra. (And Watsky.)
And on top of all that, two of my best friends, my “big sister”, and my cousin got married; Movement Project performed at Evolution in SF, the Elevaters’ album release party, Pac Modern’s SPF Showcase, and Maxt Out; I visited Dallas, Houston, Santa Barbara, and San Diego; got to see two (three?) of my favorite bands/artists live (The Local Natives and American Royalty, Queen B & Jay-Z); and I got to spend a lot of time in the great outdoors, hiking and camping and pretending I know how to rock climb.
The biggest gift of the year was raising $42k (7k over our goal!) for our film, Jilted!!! I was so humbled by all the love and support poured out from people all over the globe, from all corners of my life. Thank you, a million times thank you, if you were one of the dear ones who believed in our little film and believed in me. I can’t wait to show you the fruit of all our hard work, sweat, tears (and your dollars!) in 2015!
Looking back on this year, I can’t believe all that took place. It was a hard year, yes. But when I lay it all out like this, I realize how much I have. I am humbled. I am grateful. I am so so blessed.
Thank you for putting up with my sappy reminiscing. I find it necessary for me to do this at the end of every year so I can enter the new year with mountains of gratitude and a whole lot of hope. Thank you for your support and friendship and love. And if at the end of this year you feel like you can’t go on, just remember that tomorrow is a bright new year and yes, you can.
