“Be old enough to appreciate your freedom, and young enough to enjoy it.” — Kristin Armstrong
If you’ve been following me on the good ol’ ‘gram, you already know I spent last weekend in and around Salt Lake City, Utah. Because when your friend calls and says “hey, how would you feel about going on a weekend adventure for my birthday?” the answer is always a resounding yes. And what a weekend adventure it was. Long drives on open roads – the sheer beauty around us overwhelming us to the point of stopping every few miles to hop out and give it the proper attention it deserved. Mountains and trees and so. much. green. Wildflowers as far as the eye can see and dreamy white dandelions as big as my hand. 15 hours of daylight and eating dinner at 10pm. Stopping for bison on the side of the road, a mere 25 feet from our rolled down windows. Singing Disney songs at the top of our lungs as we come lunging down the mountain at Melly speed. Jumping into the hot tub after a long day of frolicking up mountains and across salt flats. Feasting on bread and blueberries and cheese and wine, barefoot and cross-legged on the floor in our PJ’s at midnight. Spur of the moment decisions that lead us to sitting on the curb in front of the “Up” house, ice cream dripping down our fingers. Mosquito bites galore. The sweet sticky feel of summer. Falling into bed at the end of the night, exhausted and full and deliriously happy. Young, up-for-anything, and free.
Thanks Utah for a great weekend. We sure had fun with you. Until next time,
